About The Flaming Lotus Girls

Flaming Lotus Girls is a group of female and male artists who make large-scale collaborative fire and metal art. We began in 2000, as a group of 6 women and two men who wanted to attain the necessary skills and knowledge to participate in the creation of large sculptural installations. Since that time, we have gown into an artist’s group of more than 100 members, more than half being women.

We have created major interactive sculptural works, incorporating innovative designs in welded metal, interactive fire effects and responsive electronics. Our sculptures are made of steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, glass and wood – and sizes range from small to the very large, with fire blazing from 2“ to 150’.

Women and men are encouraged to participate with the us by helping to design, build, operate, and play with the machines. Flaming Lotus projects encourage members with novice to expert-level experience to develop various art-making skills such as design, metal sculpting, operating various metal working tools, soldering, welding and actual fire-device construction.

We strive to accommodate and incorporate new members, holding weekly meetings in SF to which newcomers are welcome to attend.

  1. I am (really, really) interested in participating. When are the weekly meetings?

  2. We have meetings most every Wednesday 7:30pm at the Box Shop (http://tinyurl.com/2jarn7). But before you come down, give one of us a buzz to make sure 1- there’s a meeting 2- it’s at the Shop 3- It’s a meeting that you’d find interesting (sometimes meetings are boring for newcomers).
